Did something change yesterday? Capricorn has gone and Aquarius has arrived. I can’t see any difference in the night sky myself. The old astronomical symbol represents water – like waves. The constellation was familiar to many past civilisations. They all “saw” water – or perhaps a bussa. Perhaps floods came with it. Stars are not as bright as the moon and the stars in Aquarius are not the brightest in the night sky. However, they are interesting, because twelve of them have planets (probably).

I didn’t toil in the garden today. I walked uphill to look at the blue sea. The sun is low in winter, and the shadows are long. There is strong contrast between light and shadow. There are some trees that are sound, but disease is creeping across the land. A fungus is afflicting ash trees. Bits of bark are falling off. The farmer must cut them down. He is planting new young trees to replace them. Meanwhile, there are daffodils by the church.

Mirowgh orth an kewny garow war an vos ma! Smodh ew ascra an rüdhek, saw rüdh bewek ew y blüv. Losyow on nag ew smodh. Ma dhodhans semblans a shîl, pecar'a aval saben.  

My little world is filled with colours, patterns and textures. There is beauty hidden everywhere. Why does this fungus have an appearance of lace or a frilly fan? The wood is rotten but the fungus is vibrant. Look at the rough lichen on this wall! The robin’s breast is smooth, but its feathers are a lively red. Catkins are not smooth. They have an appearance of scales, like a fir cone.

The day today was full. First, I gave food and water to the animals – two rabbits, two guinea pigs and two cats. The rabbits and guinea pigs like carrots. The cats prefer fish. Then I had a Cornish class. I like talking with my students. I should like to go to the café in Truro for our class. Will Covid ever go away? Go away, you horrible coronavirus! After that I walked around the garden. There is work to do, but I took photos instead! I found green shoots, protected by dead flowers. I discovered white strawberry flowers and yellow primroses, hiding among leaves. The camellia flowers are not hidden. Their petals are pink and their hearts golden. In the evening I listened to a lecture about the history of our language and joined a conversation group. I could not hear very well, sadly

I am happy today. I began teaching my Cornish lessons again – the first time since the beginning of December. I can’t go out, but I can see my students with Zoom. I have more classes to come this week.

Nag ew! An el ew agan flogh wydn, ha’n cloudys ew tevyans a gewny. Glan ha pur ew agan ayr òbma, heb mòstedhes. Da via agan mab cawas chei en Kernow. Trigys ens re bell dhorta nei. Re gott veu an vysyt. Lôwena dhewgh ha benetuwgana.

We had visitors today for a short while. Angels with masks! We were very happy to see new (half) faces. They brought tidings of great joy and shopping. Is this an angel among the clouds? No! The angel is our grandson, and the clouds are a growth of lichen. Our air here is clean and pure, without pollution. Our son would like to get a house in Cornwall. They live too far away from us. The visit was too short. Hello and goodbye.
